Guide to Mysterious Engineering Symbols

As I read documentation of a technical nature I often come across references and symbols with which I am not familiar. For example, in reference to shaft tolerances the symbols "dn<50000" and "C/P>10". Am looking for an engineering reference (glossary of terms) that would help in understanding a broad spectrum of terms. Would appreciate pointing me to some references. Thank you.

Are these shaft tolerances related to bearing fits, at this point in time I have some hazy idea that this maybe the case and related to shaft speeds also.

It is indeed. Your hazy idea is precisely the case - sorry I wasn't more specific. If you have some reference to a glossary of symbols that would be excellent.

Another hazy idea.

The "C/P>10" looks like some kind of hybrid surface texture parameter symbol dealing with bearing ratios.

I'm also interested in what others say.

I got this answer from my tool and die guy I hope this helps! If it is a spindle shaft the DN is a surface speed rating. This is calculated by multipling the od (bearing journal) in millimeters by the service speed (rpm) i.e. 40mm x 1000rpm = 40000dn . This shaft is less than 50000dn. It is simply a easy version of surface speed without PI. Widely used in bearing speeds.
