Rocketing Wheelchair

02/01/2008 8:36 AM

Found this recently, and thought CR4ers would like to comment:

  • A retired IT systems engineer from Germany was arrested after he was found doing 40mph down his local high street in a super-powered wheelchair he had upgraded.
  • Guenther Eichmann, 54, told cops in Geseke, Germany, that he was a former engineer and had modified the wheelchair's electric motor so it could go faster. This was the second time he had been stopped for speeding after a warning for breaking the limit. Eichmann was slapped with a £300 fine and his wreceiving heelchair was confiscated.
  • Rumours that police stormed Eichmann's garage to find blueprints for a machine gun attachment, an ejector seat and a turbo boost remain unconfirmed.

Love it! I've a couple of friends who use wheelchairs and would love the machine gun for buses that won't stop for them.

Now see if this guy was in the Good ole' USA, he start his on race team and get sponsors. I say more power to him. I can't understand why the Gestapo is confiscating all his stuff. I am sure for the benefit of others. BUT, I say let him put lights and a horn on it , get the thing registered and drive it like he stole it!!!!

They have speed limits for wheelchairs in Germany? Cool!

Is 35mph okay?

Maybe they don't need a speed limit for anything over there but they have something far worse. It is called TUV.

Anything for sale for cars or even maybe for everything else as well, has to have this TUV certified logo. It means that single off vehicles or adaptations are out of the question as you have to submit your product in triplicate. One for testing and dismantling. One for destructive testing and one for keeps as records. This does my head in as the one off bike building scene and drag race cars or any other racing has never posed a threat on the open road for anybody. This is just European small minded stupidity at its best and the decadent bastards in Brussels are under pressure to inflict this to all countries in Europe. I don't take quickly to protesting but if that happens I am taking the day off to walk the streets of London with all the rest of them, euro politicians are wankers.

I want it noted for the record that I do not like this euro shit and I want no mistake about it either, keep your grubby mitts of my liberty and freedoms. I have my own brain and can think for myself. Piss off.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

You possibly have heard about the DARWIN AWARD given to people like this man ?

But Guenther will be topped by another story because Yankees do need it always a little bit bigger or faster ... ;-)

That has already been done as well.

There was this bloke who got hold of a rocket engine and somehow strapped this thing to his pick-up truck

He set of normal mode and got up to speed. He then proceeded to start the afterburner thing and litterally took off. They found a dark, smouldering patch in the side of this mountain some miles up the dessert. He had lost control due to the wheels not grabbing the air so well (duh), and bored the whole contraption in the side of this rock.

I don't know if this story is true but it made me laugh at the time I heard it. The stories title was "This man has found out what it feels like when the devil kicks you up your ass".

The story has been reported many times in the English language, in Dutch, Spanish and a few others I am not sure about.

It has NOT been reported even once in the German language!!!

So my take is "a new Urban Legend"!!

Wait for the updated TUV. They will call it TUV2. I am sure they can loose the excess letters to live up to reputation.

Personally I don't trust any person that gives all or most of their freedom up for a system that hides all reasoning behind a mask of "for your safety". The Dutch are exactly the same and probably the first to sign up for the Germans to "control" their certified testing procedures.

You still want to know why I don't live there anymore? If the most exiting thing in your day is going to be the police stopping your neighbour for a non complying tail light on his bike, I suppose you better line up for voluntary euthanasia. Hang on a minute, they have that as well in The Netherlands

"the most exiting thing in your day..."

Sounds as if that made you head for the exit.
