CR4 Blog Release Timing

02/01/2008 5:57 PM

I am wondering whether the CR4 posting to participants takes place at a common point in time and if not, why not? If it is released simultaneuosly everywhere, at what approximate time and from which time zone?

Hello Guest,

As I understand it, your <"common point in time>" means simultaneously.

The answer is of course not.

I do not know the system CR4 uses to send the daily CR4 Blog, but it arrives here by email.

No matter how the sending is done, there must be a list, and that list is either Alphabetical or by Membership Number.

It takes a finite time to transmit to each address on that list, so even if the instruction was to send to all on the list, the ones at the start of the list are sent first, and the final listed Member (whether alphabetical, Membership Number or whatever criteria is used in making the list) will be the last to be processed, = later than the first processed, increased by the list processing time, including the email server and ISP processing time.

Delays occur further, dependent on ISP's processing to on-send, and the availability of Internet Servers to receive/on-send, then the final ISP (The recipient's ISP Email Server) to process and advise the recipient.

So, all email messages have built-in delays, in sending/transmission/reception, as you can see.

Meanwhile we await CR4 Admin to advise further, thank you.

Kind Regards....

I always admired your prompt, at the subject, and thorough answers to all the questions, here, at CR4.

This is why I am appalled by the fact that you haven't mentioned THE MOST TIME DELAYING cause: the time setting of gathering of the email from the server.

Hello indel

I'm sorry you were appalled, and do apologize for the misunderstanding.

We use MailwasherPro and Pegasus Email Client to automatically check and download emails from the POP3 Servers at our several ISP's, also GMail and Hotmail.

Both the above have settings which are manually adjustable, for the interval between the auto-check/downloads of emails.

As an interesting aside, there is also a Mailwasher free which has lesser facilities than MailwasherPro.

All the above helpful Software was designed and developed right here, in New Zealand, and is a pleasure to use.

Kind Regards....

Ah, appalled is the wrong word. I guess I should say I felt honored.

As I said, your answer was a complete one, concerning the process of sending-receiving email. I just tried to tease you, mentioning the "human factor" i.e. the sampling of email in the queue on the email server, on the email interface. In my case is Outlook and I set the checking of the server at 15 minutes. That because I have an email on an university server that asked us not to check for email sooner than that.

Have a great week (the Greeks -I lived there some seven month - have a greeting for the beginning of the day, of the week, of the month... etc)

On most days, the CR4 Daily Digest is sent out via our email client at 11:00 PM EST. I'm not sure how quickly the system parses the mailer, but I assume it takes a few minutes to work through the entire subscriber list.

Hello qaqcpipeman

HG Wells was right, there is a "Time Machine".

You received the email before it was sent.

Kind Regards....

Yeah, the time stamp astounded me. Oh well, if I had saved 6 minutes a day throughout life, what could I have accomplished.

Getting the post on the same day would be helpful. Mine usually are 1-2 days later than the post.

I just realized that at this pace, if I had saved 6 minutes every day of my life it would turn out to be 93 and 1/2 days of extra time to pursue other things, including family and pleasure.

Hello qaqcpipeman

How much of your life was taken up with that above calculation?

Kind Regards....

CR4 for Monday 4 Febuary 2008 arived at 2:53 PM in Sydney Australia. We are on daylight saving time here so it would really be 3:53PM EST. That's confusing isn't it? Your EST and our EST.

It is 03:53GMT on the 24 hour clock. That's nailed it.

There is a good argument for using Swatch Time, which does not alter settings with seasons, and being to base 10, it is really easy to calculate out time intervals.

There are Clock Utilities which include Swatch + UTC and personally set clocks.

One of the best is World Time which is Malware free, and has a huge base of cities and countries for configuring your clock settings.

World Time has alarms, chimes, ships bells, checks against Internet Time Servers, can re-set your Computer Clock automatically and more.

The download link above, is for the current stable version, there is a beta version available, but still has a few bugs to iron out.

I have been using World Time for many years, a great free Utility from: http://www.pawprint.net/wt/

Kind Regards....
