02/12/2008 11:48 PM

Hello !

Can anybody tell the method for calibration a DPM with 4-20 mA Input . The input connected to the DPM is a pressue transmitter .We want to check the DPM calibration for its inputs without using the transmitter .

With regards

If you are calibrating the DPM without the loop power, meaning that the transmitter connecting cables are removed, and just with the Calibrator, you may use a self-generating 4-20 mA injector.

There are a host of these calibrators available in the market, the most simple is the LOOP CALIBRATOR, and the prices ranging from US$180.00 to US$500.00. The accuracy is within 0.02% of reading. Most of the calibrators have hands-free functions such as RAMP and STEP. Some of them has SCALE available, but mostly 0 to 100% of the scale. At 4mA, the scale reads 0% and at 20mA, it reads 100%.

You have to look out for the maximum output. Some calibrators I used in the earlier days only give out maximum of 20mA, and it will be impossible to go beyond the 100% scale when you want it. There is a brand, VICTOR which can source up to 22mA.

Go to website: http://www.tijit.net

You will find a good range of Calibrators for source and measurement at reasonable prices. Multifunction, with Quick-Set keys and high accuracy for measurement of process signal and various outputs and inputs, the VICTOR 15 Plus. The price is USD555.00 EA.

It appears were posting at about the same time. It looks like there's a machine that does everything, cheap, and easy. And here I've been doing it in kit form. Will these units also generate a 0 to 10 V output?

The Loop Calibrator cannot give output of 10VDC.

You have to get the VC11 Plus, Process Calibrator with accuracy of 0.02% of reading. This can also simulate Thermocouples of 10 types,

  • R 0*C ~ 1767*C
  • L -200.0*C ~ 900.0*C
  • S 0*C ~ 1767*C
  • U -200.0 ~ 600*C
  • K -200.0 ~ 1372.0*C
  • E -200.0 ~ 1000.0*C
  • J -200.0 ~ 1200*C
  • T -250.0 ~ 400.0*C
  • N 200.0 ~ 1300.0*C
  • B 600*C ~ 1820*C

Current of 4-20 mA process signal and with Ramp and Step functions, and scale. It can also simulate Resistance Output and RTD of types: PT100, PT200, PT500, PT1000, Cu10, Cu50 of 2-wire, 3-wire and 4-wire. Resistance of up to 40KΩ (thermistors).

Quick setting keys for individual digit. EMC certified, LVD certified.

Model VC11 Plus

Google Winnipeg it has some outside links that might be helpful. If I understand you correctly you wish to compare milliamps to your display. A battery, variable resistor, and a meter.
If you can provide more information it would be helpful. I probably am missing something here, so forgive me if I state the obvious.

DPM?!

Are you in Such a tearing hurry that you cannot even say what?

Went to Wiki to find out:

http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/DPM

Got puzzled.

Gave up

connect a ma source to the input and see at 4 ma display should be zero at DPM and at 20 ma it should be full scale range. if you feel it is not showing proper full range than adjust it thrugh calibration pot inside DPM. Recheck 2- 3 times.
