"Transitions" lenses

02/29/2008 2:53 PM

Hello all!

Does anyone know why the "Transitions" lenses in my glasses will get darker faster in cold weather than they will in hot weather?

Cal

UV light cause lens to darken. Less humidity in the air during cold weather. As humidity decrease UV light levels increase. Glasses get darker faster.

I have a pair of glasses, with possibly one of the best wellknown brand (Varilux comfort) transition lenses that do not transition any more. Does anybody know why?

I had a set of transition glasses when I was in University. The problem that I noticed was when coming into a warm building it took a long time for the glass to lighten up. I live in cold country where it may get as cold as 40 below (40 below is the same in C or F) but it would take several minutes after entering a warm building for the glasses to lighten up.

Wow! I would never have thought humidity would have any affect!

Thanks, Ozzb!

And Curious, yes, I have the same complaint. When entering a dimly-lit building like my garage, I am almost blind for a few minutes! Makes finding the right wrench difficult!
