Look for ICP-IMS or IMS or SIMS on the net.

Check this out, it may help you find what you are looking for:

http://search.globalspec.com/ProductFinder/FindProducts?query=UV%20and%20Visible%20Spectrometers

It would be helpful if we knew whether you are planning to use spectroscopy for analyzing solid, liquid, or gaseous matter. Perhaps a brief description of what you are going to do with it would help us to understand what your needs are.

The Original thread is for mass spectrometer. So I believe it is for molecular mass. Optical spectrometer word has not been used, so i think that is not the area of the interest where fund to be invested.

ICP-IMS may be an ideal equipment for reasonable funds. SIMS are too expensive. Ion Mobility Spectrometers are for specialized jobs. If I have funds and do not know what to buy then ICP-IMS is to go. To use SIMS one requires in depth knowledge of the technology and must have great purpose to use such special equipment. IMS are every where right from Sabre-4000 onward.

I am going for IMS now as I am investing my money in the technology in its development. It is fun to develop such instruments. There are byers who do not know its use and can pay $50,000 and more.

I think I would first search out the manufacturers of MS units on the Internet, such as Perkin-Elmer, Siemens, etc., and see what they have to offer. It is often easier to match your percieved needs to an available unit than the other way around. Will what you can get do what you need it for? Do a Google search on the term 'mass spectrometer' and you should get (among lots of definitions and some trash) all of the major makers websites. Look at each of them, or at least the ones you can identify as having the sort of equipment you think you seek. Hope this helps, and please do update us with your search results?

you can visit THERMOELECTRON's site for a brief description of mass spectrometers.
