Why Can I only Write to One Person At a Time?

04/07/2008 7:27 PM

I got a bunch of mail and answered it all with one liners, or so in a CR-4 Discussion. I was accused of Spamming, which upset me.

Then I found out from others that my messages were not there and only ads were sent.

Since then I have not ccd or bcced, and have only written one person to one address at time, and apparently the messages have gotten through without additional riders.

Chtank suggested I convert to Linux. When I went to the Linux site I got kicked off when I tried to download to a DVD.

Obviously I have to do a few more things, though when I bought a used Mac my wife ended up with it in her workspace because she likes silver.

In the past when I wrote for another site I had a growing readership in China because of my work combining the I Ching with the Bible. Confucian scholars asked for a link to my work which complimented me, but then the correspondence ended around the time the Chinese were reported to be blocking internet content they didn't like.

I wonder if I was bundled into the recent Tibet cyber assault and made irritating.

Anyway I have not cced or bcced anyone since the reports of the riders and deletions and am curious about what might have caused this.

I am not sure I am understanding your issue, but it sounds like the same issue discussed here: http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/15268/why-is-there-a-limit-on-Pm-s

apparently what happened was my notes were deleted, and ads went in their place.

I never saw what went myself. Some apparently just got blank message, & others got gobblygook, and others got ads.

Thanks for the reference. I'm going to type the http etc in and see.

I ran into the daily message limit just because of my virulent verbosity. But I never had it replace anything, just had it try to curtail my propensity for prose. The message limits are a site default to curtail spam...Chris Leopold can increase your limits if necessary, but if you were batch-mailing ecards, that would be considered spam. Sorry, not an OS issue, browser issue or virus issue, it was a site issue with message limits.

You can't fix, but you're not broken either...permissions vs problems.

Transendian

Is talking about regular email!

He has both apple & windows based machines.

He is using Hot mail

The ads are things like:

More immediate than e-mail? Get instant access with Windows Live Messenger.

The emails would be missing the body. To: CC: & subject were fine

the footer [As shown above] sometimes appears multiple times.

Despite the work involved moving to Gmail, could help.

I'm not sure if the problem is only with mail, Thunderbird may be an option?

Spark Station probably has some relevant thoughts, Trans could try dropping him a PM

The link I provided earlier is full of windows geeks who love this sort of stuff. The apple forum would be similar.

All I can say to start this is 'WOW'. You've been abused. I'll need to know a lot more info, IE...what OS version you're running, mail program and version...etc, etc, etc.

Chtank's suggestion is a good one if you know how to use linux (or any of the unix variations).

We're going to need a lot more information to try an nail down a culprit but I doubt that will do you any good. Most of the time, once you notice the problem, it's way too late. Don't fight the intrusion if you have your data backed up. Fdisk the machine. Low level format and then reinstall the software and data. It sucks but since you didn't have av software that was capable of handling the attack, you're pretty much screwed. I don't mean to say that you didn't take precausions, but apparently the attack bypassed those you had.

Lots of questions, like OS version, machine type, bios version etc. What is the backup you have of your data? If you do not have a backup, shut the machine down until we can find you an online virus program that will attempt to disinfect your computer.

I'm assuming data is the problem, else you can just reinstall the factory cd's to solve the problem.

I would also love to read through you're I Ching analysis / translation. I've looked through the 1964 translation by Ch'u Chai and Winberg Chai. I have a soft spot for Sun Tzu, Taoism and the era of his enlightenment. History is a wonderful thing if you can get past the language (hell, I can't even read old english well :P).

While I understand that timing may seem somewhat circumspect, I doubt this is a chinese "official" operation. While I do know that China is so paranoid to prevent mass education that it is attempting to create it's own version of the internet, It wont happen. The grid is coming online from Cern, the internet is fundamentally changing and even the comunista that is china cannot fight the surge of information. They may be able to slow it, but barely... The internet cannot be controlled.

Take if from me. Here I sit, in an 18' trailer in the outskirts of Texas. My little USB cellular highspeed modem offering me 3 MB DSL speeds. I could take a plane to Bejing and get the same speeds and there would be nothing the Chinese government could do about it. Satelites know no boundries. Isolationism is no longer an option.

Anyway, if you can get me a little more info on the system you're using and the data backup details, I can offer you a few options. I recommend not turning your computer back on until you have a plan to recover it.

Ni Hao. Wo bo qua shwa putungwa (sorry, I only know a very little mandarin, enough to drink in bars in Taiwan :D)

OK, you've got 2 things going on in this post.

1. when you try to cc or bcc something deletes your notes and sends adverts in it's place

and

2. You have a large following in China.

First, I have to wonder whether it isn't the Chinese government going after you via your browser environment (Yahoo, Google etc.) knowing which one would help.

2. sounds like a bug. Try downloading your browser (IE7, Firefox), uninstalling and reinstalling it. Remember to export your 'favorites' folder.

Get some good bug removal software - something new. I don't think Grisoft's AVG will catch this sort of thing.

It sounds like your e-mail program is hijacking your stuff. That sounds like a bug to me.

If you can work in Linux then that's the way to go. If you're a Windows victim, like so many of us, don't go above XP2 to play it safe or XP3 Candidate release if you're feeling adventurous.

Either way, good luck, and I hoped this helped.

Typical thinking...has to be Microsoft. Not a particular part of Microsoft, but all of it. Is your Linux email program integrated into your kernel? No....Neither is Outlook, MS Mail, Yahoo, MSN etc, etc, etc., Next, did you perchance note that he's using a Mac. Naw, too myopic to consider something you know nothing about.

You made one decent observation and 5 completely idiotic ones because you didn't read the question.

RTFQ or RTFM. If you had a cold, would you want the doctor to make the same type of assumptions and castrate you?

I'm thinking you'll eventually make the Darwin awards, but try to quit advertising.
