The History of the Hard Hat

07/05/2006 10:45 AM

Read a cute story about the history of the hard hat. I was surprised to find out they haven't really been used all that long, but not to surprised that the first ones were made of boiled leather. Turns out the first hard hat zone was on the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge.
I wonder how many injuries and fatalities are prevented each year by hard hats.

Hard hat

I remember that a long time ago the only time I was glad I was wearing a hard hat was the time I stood up under a steel beam which was about a half an inch lower than I was tall. I almost went back to my knees.
