HP PAVILION DV6000 PROBLEM

05/11/2008 8:29 AM

Hello all,

Please I've a problem with my HP DV6000 laptop.

I observed lately that the screen goes off each time i plug in the charger but comes on if i remove the charger, though it will indicate that it is charge but the screen sharpness will be very low, almost inpossible to see the screen.

Please advise me on what to do.

Martins

Almost all laptops come with power management software (to save battery power) locate it and change settings.

Yeah, I'd check the power management. Running vista, right? Do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and look for either the power management or personalization row from the long list that pops up. Somewhere in there you should be able to change the power settings for plugged in. Sounds like the monitor off setting is set to 0.

Sorry I can't be more exact, my laptop (same model) is home.

It might be your ACPI controller program has got somewhat crazy. I am not sure will be it suitable but some times when something gone wrong with laptops in its logic behavior I used to remove battery for a couple of minutes or so. Then I placed battery there. This trick allows to reset laptop low-level firmware. BTW it would be interesting at the time to test how would operate your laptop when battery removed but only through the charger.

I can't insist it's remedy but I hope it helps.

Among the options is to take it in to a branch of Currys (usual disclaimer) that has a technology service and get someone to sort it out. However, if it is outside the UK then that would be a non-starter.
