Eye Sight Glass

05/16/2008 10:50 AM

good day

i have a chemical contained tanks here, we recently add eye sight glass for each tank to work as a level indicator,

now I'm working in having this eye sight glasses labels or have some kind of clear stickers that have the scales wrote in it (in order to tell how many gallons inside the tanks)

I have a hard time found where to find such kind of stickers..

I wonder if any one have any idea, or a place to go to have this job done?

thank you in advance for your time

Any printer or lable maker. But you have to tell them what to put on the stickers... exactly, they are printers not engineers.

You might try a company that makes measuring tapes. They should be able to print the label to any height you need. The question will be if they are willing to do custom work.

Does the label have to be on the glass itself, or can it be off to one side?

Another option to possibly consider is to go to your office supplier and request custom printed packing tapes (parcel tape stuff) you can have what you like printed on to parcel tape very cheaply and with many impression on a single roll.

I did this once for a medical instrument to indicate the length of a patient in an incubator... the tapes were produced for peanuts and could be torn off at the required lengths to be stuck on the sides of the transparent incubator...

A cheap and easy solution! John.

Hello billybolbol

I trust that the chemicals in those tanks are neither noxious nor dangerous if they escape.

Eyesight glasses have a tendency to break, releasing the liquids inside the tank, until the contents reach the same level as the break.

Depending on what chemicals are contained in those tanks, it may be safer to fit a float in the tank, connected to a vertical rod or tube which passes through a tube fixed into the tank lid.

That rod or tube can easily be marked to show quantity, and does not have the "breakage problem" of the eyeglass method.

Kind Regards....

I have seen such tanks are painted like a scale. Ofcourse paint has to be suitable for outdoor duty.

A Log Book containing the specific reading that are "Normal", "Low, or "High, along with time stamped readings could be attached to the tank itself, This would allow any operator to open, record his readings, and at the same time, reference the actual reading against the range of values, as well as compare previous readings.

Just a Thought

You didn't say if your scale is linear or not. Assuming it is, buy a t metal tape measure at any hardware store ($2.00 to $3.00) cut it to length and stick it behind the sight glass. Attach a conversion table if necessary.
