Hello ahmed952

You have failed to advise some vital information:

  1. Voltage
  2. DC
  3. If AC, Number of phases
  4. If AC, The frequency
  5. Other - Advise please

Type of cable:

  1. Lead covered
  2. Rubber
  3. Silicone Rubber
  4. XLPE
  5. Steel Wire Armoured
  6. Steel Tape Armoured
  7. Oil Filled
  8. Paper insulated
  9. Other - Advise please

Type of installation:

  1. Desert sand
  2. Undersea
  3. Heavy clay
  4. Gravel
  5. Loam
  6. In a conduit or pipe (Advise the pipe material)
  7. On a Cable Tray
  8. Vertical or horizontal orientation
  9. Ship
  10. Other - advise please

Climate:

  1. Hot Sahara or Middle East
  2. Antarctica
  3. Monsoonal
  4. Other - Advise please

Barometric pressure range - Minimum to maximum

There are other specifics needed, but those should do as a starting point, which is why you need to check the Maker of your particular cable, check their cable charts, or ask their Engineers for specific advice - After all, they should know their own cables better than anyone else, and there are significant variations between the "same cable" as made by different manufacturers.

Kind Regards....

The details are as follows its for 3 phase AC current, 230v, xlpe/swa/pvc cable , supported on a cable tray for a cooling plant in middle east, frequency is 50hz , atmospheric weather varies from minimum 20 deg/c to maximum 50 deg/c.This cable is required as an incomer from the main distribution board for low voltage(L.V) for a building. If you require more information you can mail me.

Hi ahmed952,

This subject matter was discussed in this very same site many times. Now Sparkstation has given the detailed data requirement for selection of cable with de rating factors . Still you cannot understand what he said.

Is this for copper or for wet string?

The Institution of Electrical Engineers maintains and publishes a wonderful thing called the Wiring Regulations that covers this very thing.
