Digital Endoscope/borescope inspection in wall cavity

06/10/2008 10:39 AM

i am trying to find out if there is nayone in Ireland/UK who can perform the above or perhaps whether there is a product which i might be able to purchase and use myself. I have looked around online and have seen just about every variation bar what i need. Basically I need a flexible fibreoptic endoscope with 20" reach approx. with digital capability for recording purposes. If anyone can help me please advise, I would be eternally grateful for any help.

We used a cheap and small CCTV camera connected to a TV and recorder with a small light to lower it down a bore hole to inspect underground cavities in dolomite area. Maybe it can be used for wall cavities as well.

I've used a camera similar to this one for inspecting my underground irrigation system. I found some sprinkler head attachment points that were overgrown with sod by looking inside the pipe for junctions and tees. Also, used it to look inside of a car fender to aid in finding the location and orientation of a coil that had dropped inside. Once we found it with the camera and small tv, a skinny arm reached inside and retrieved the coil.

I notice that this model sees in the dark and comes with a 12 volt supply and 65 feet of cable. Recording can be accomplished with a VCR.

I failed to mention in my previous post that I glued a rigid contact lens onto the front of the camera to provide a close-up focus for use in tight spaces. When I ran the camera up the irrigation pipe I first attached it to fairly stiff clothesline wire, so I could push it about 60' into the pipe. That worked great in that it is almost like having a nearsighted mouse on the end of the wire, reporting back what it sees. If you experiment with a plus lens of approximately 4 to 5 diopters to put over the camera's lens, you should be able to find one that will work within the confines of a wall.

oilcan13,

Yes, I've seen this Milwaukee unit, as well as a similar (albeit lower resolution) unit marketed by Rigid tools. I do not believe that either of these have a video output other than to the built in lcd screen; therefore you can not easily record what you see.

Hi Codeyaid,

a company in the UK called Sealey sell a borescope which is 11mm dia x 900mm with a LCD screen which you can record from and it includes tip mounted mirrors and magnet attachments. Retail price £274.95 Its cheap and cheerfull but it could do the trick. Good luck

Digital endoscope is multi-functional, and it is used for inspecting many places such as the inside of engines, machines, pipes and tubing, etc. It is also used for textile inspection, printing inspection and computer parts inspection.
