Presently we are using Rack and pinion for steering mechanisam which have left hand and right hand side. While going for left hand i have to mount left hand steering barrel with different link and other for right hand. Is there any thing to make the commen with the steering barrel for left and right hand side?

Hello Guest,

You could place the vehicle steering wheel centrally, on the vehicle mid-line from front to rear.

This would eliminate most of your problems.

Don't laugh at the suggestion, it's been done before.

Kind Regards....

Thank you very much

But in market I do not have the steering rack like that

It has to manufacture by oems

& I have one more problem : Inclination between the steering column and the rack joint is very steep: in this case adjustable universal joint will not work effectively it will give tight at one fork and easy at one fork.

is there any better way to make it

give me some suggestions

Your getting a rack manufactured for OEM or by OEM manufacturers?

Design a completely new rack, they are not that hard, unless your going for the ones that are 1-hit forged rack, with variable pitch teeth for tight turning as against turning at speed (lane changing)

In the Off Road buggy I run, the previous rack was centre steering, the rack I'm running now is a power rack from a Holden Camira, this one has the tie-rods exiting from the centre of the rack, the previous one, I had to adapt a double acting cyl to the rack for power steering.

Multiple Uni joints?

a transfer case for the steering mechanism? yes, this has been done before too.

You could use Sparkstations ideal but add u-joints so the steering could remain at one side but actuate steering mechanism from the center.

I had an uncle that built a tractor from junked cars etc. He installed the steering gear upside down to resolve an interference and ended up with a tractor that steered backward. You turned right to go left and left to go right. He used it for years but I could never plow a straight line with it. He did fine.
