Tonic Herb in Energy Drink

This might not be the right forum for such a discussion, but I thought it might interest those of you with inquisitive minds who once in a while require a boost from an energy drink like myself. I was reading the ingredients one day on the back of a Rockstar and I my attention was drawn to the nutrient Eleutherococcus senticosus. I did a wikipedia search real quick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleutherococcus_senti cosus (I know spare me the lecture on wikipedia results...I was at work and didnt have a lot of time on my hands) and I was interested to learn that this root, which is much like Ginseng, should not be taken with caffeine!!...Anyone know why they'd put this in an energy drink?

The Legal Limit

09/05/2006 4:54 PM

Countries regulate the amount of caffeine that can be added to food and drink. For example, in the U.S., the FDA has set the legal limit at 65 mg of caffeine per 12 liquid ounces. How much caffeine is in the drink that you mention? My guess is that the maker is trying to get around the regulations.

Re: Caffiene in drinks

Caffiene in drinks can only help reduce pain in old people and hence may have good feeling at times, but may be very harmful for young people. Caffiiene in small quantity can be used for medicinal purpose with prescription and not on regular bases. It reduces brain activity and is pain killer at best.

Toxic Herb in Energy Drink

Take the herb every day for endurance. I cycle seriously. This increases O2 in the blood stream - tests prove this. Drink at least three cups of java every morning. In two years, I have not died yet.

Since your talking about purines, of which caffeine is one, try looking at two other purines commonly found with caffeine, theobromine (heart stimulate found abundantly in chocholate) and theophyllin (sp?) found abundantly in teas. Roughly, caffeine affects nerves (X amount) Roughly, theobromine affect heart (X amount) Roughly, theophylline affects both heart and nerves, but by about x/2 as much as the others. There are also contraindictions with these purines as well.
