please tell me about pump selection i.e. positive, negative, capacity, flow.

let me share of what ive known about selecting pumps.. i am not expert i just have a little knowledge about pumps. hope i can help a bit.

there are 3 types of pumps

*displacement pumps- reciprocating pumps and rotary pumps are labelled as displacement pumps.

*rotordynamic pumps- centrifugal and propeller pumps, you can call them as part of rotodynamic pumps.

*jet pumps.

Displacement pumps- the liquid is displaced from the side to the discharge side of the pump by the mechanical variation of the volume of a chamber or chambers.

-Reciprocating pumps

*pumping done by punger of piston in a liquid cylinder

*suitable and better efficiency for handling small volumes and high differential pressure.

*suitable for any required viscosity

*self priming (self evacuating air from pump and suctiion line)

-Rotary pumps

*steady flow but less efficient than reciprocating pumps because of large areas and running clearance.

*wear increases the clearances

*and results in loss in efficiency, especially when handling low viscosity fluids.

Rotordynamic pump-ability to handle large volume flow rates at regular delivery, ability to hande low to medium heads, ability to handle liquids from medium to low viscosities, ability to handle contaminated liquids quiet in operations, low care and maintenance requirements, comparatiely lower cost.

Jet pump- The ejector pump is based on the fact that a water-jet entrains the sorrounding liquid. when this jet is placed inside a duct it can be used to create a substantial vacuum, and with proper design of the duct most of the energy in the mixing jet can be regained as static pressure on the discharge side.

you have many things to consider on selecting the pump that suit best your sytem. the wise move is to ask help of the pump vendors.

Hope that can help.

Thanks. My Condensate Power Pumps (my Avtar) are:

*Displacement pumps- the liquid is displaced from the side to the discharge side of the pump by the mechanical variation of the volume of a chamber or chambers.

Centrifugal pumps give energy to a fluid by spinning (rotating) it very fast inside a circular casing. The fluid moves outwards from the centre, towards the casing. An increase in velocity causes a greater flow rate in the discharge area of the pump. The movement of the fluid away from the centre is due to the centrifugal force.
