Instrument for measuring Capacitance of Film capacitor

07/06/2008 11:53 PM

I m searching for an instrument which will measure the capacitance of wound film capacitor. This measurement is required before spraying the wound element. Suggest an instrument as soon as possible

There a many hand-held and bench DVMs available with scales reading capacitance directly (my Wavetek 25XT has scales from 200pF to 20mF (milli-Farad) in decade ranges). Check suppliers such as RS Components and Farnell, or google DVM.

The measurement is to be done on wound film capacitor so proper contacts are very necessary. Hence i require a very accurate and reliable instrument.

Have you tried Globalspec?

What sort of accuracy are you looking for?

What is the testing speed needed?

I have several capacitance bridges, each has its use, the most accurate is good to better than 5 ppm or 0.0005%.

Do you need to measure Dissipation factor?

Of course, if you just need a rough measurement there are plenty of Mickey Mouse digital indicators for sale for £10 or so!!
