Hook-up Details

07/17/2008 5:06 AM

Hi Guys,

I'm now finished working/ designing with a Polyethylene plant.

My job is to create instrument hook-up details, and I think I did it just fine.

My problem is,..I was told to conduct a training/ seminar for Jr Engineers about.......Instrument Hook-up details.

I think it suits me since thats my last job, but when I think about it....I didnt have the basics on how to do Hook-up detailing. It was the mid-schedule of the project when I was told to do it, I have samples to use and I got a lot of help.

Our company have a Knowledge OnLine thru the net, but of all things, Instrument Hook-up detail is what they dont have.

Back in school days, I hate reporting, because I think it's a waste of time. Its like, individual learning, since everyone is busy preparing their own report, they wont have time to listen to the reporter, also not all students can explain his report thoroughly unlike when the teacher is the one whose teaching, everyone has a chance to learn, everyone is focused.

---

Back to hook-ups, how do you think can I conduct/ present this training?

I can't back out now, since this training is also considered in our employee assessment.

Do you have some, materials that I could use? Ideas?

Thanks in advance guys,

Start by going back through your notes carefully. Pick out the sequence of tasks involved and the methodology you used. Create a brief narrative about each step. Get a trusted colleague to assist at this point, because you will need someone to read through what you write, proofread it, edit it, give you a reality check on it. NOBODY does these things for themselves, because it cannot be done. You will never find your own errors. Report back here with progress or further requsts for assistance. I think you will do THIS just fine, too!

What EnviroMan said makes sense to me, but I would like to add this:

Don't just report the hook-up details. Did you learn or apply any principles for creating the details?

Generally, in writing or speaking, we all have these tools to guide us: what, who, where, when, why and how. Cover those and you should do well.
