Type of SCR firing

Hi every one!

Please give me some comment regrading to the diference on the ways of SCR (Thyristors) triggering pulses connection or on another way of asking, can a controlled rectfier be fired (triggered) by connecting either as

1) Gate to Anode triggering or

2) Gate to cathode triggering

If yes what is the diffrence or advantage/disavantage?

SCR's fire with gate current sourced from a voltage that is positive with respect to the cathode. TRIAC's will fire for any polarity between MT1 and MT2 with a gate current of either polarity, although triggering current is different depending on the combination of gate to MT1 and MT1 to MT2 polarity (4 quadrants of operation).

I was testing a given power electronics lab equipment. On this the pulse train was applied to terminal Anode-Gate. I was expecting the application of pulse train on Cathode-Gate terminals. This did not agree with the theory of SCR pulse triggering system. Can some one comment on this?

pls give attention to load, what load do you use? if you show me circuit i may help you. its not difficalt.

Use 1:1 isolation pulse transformer to fire the SCR gate. Also synchronize the pulse with mains 50/60Hz cycle. Fire for negative and positive SCR or Triac.
