Impossible!

If it were true your ears would burn. Think about it. There isn't enough RF energy in 30 phones to do that.

There is a lot of information online about this already, apparently it was a viral marketing scheme by a company called Cardo as to how they did it many people have many guess. One guy made a video of how to do it with a microwave, although I think his method is a bit dangerous, although 30 seconds of microwaves at a distance might not be so bad. More importantly the extras they hired to film it probably didn't know they were being radiated. Alternative methods could of been a hidden hot plate under the popcorn, or just good video editing.

Yes. As I have said to my friends when they saw this, just because it's a video doesn't mean its real. If you have any doubts, actually TRY it for yourself.

Alternatively if you put the words "cell phone" and "hoax" into a google search you get.........

http://www.seriouseats.com/required_eating/2008/06/cellphone-popcorn-hoax-videos-revealed-as-a-viral-marketing-campaign-cardo-systems.html

Yes, a simple viral marketing hoax to sell Bluetooth.

This one caught out quite a few people, which is really surprising as I would have thought people who thought it was real and cool would have immediately tried it. What, couldn't people dig up 3 friends to try and replicate it, it ain't rocket science people!

Not with the phones! Pay no attention to that microwave magnetron behind the curtain!

They tear apart a microwave oven, pull the magnetron, and wire that directly to the microwave unit with an extension cord. Face the magnetron so that it points upward through the table and run it for about 30 seconds and poof!

It is a very dangerous stunt to do, but notice that every table has a table cloth along the sides. One thing in their favor is that microwave energy is very directional and the opening to a magnetron is like a pipe. So the energy stays in a pretty tight beam, but still a stupid thing to do.

What danger? I absolutely depend on my cell phone to explode a few brain cells each morning. It's the only way I can get the ol' thought processes going. It's kind of like Jiffy-Pop - only in my mind! And with each pop life seems just a tiny bit less grueling.

Plus it's cheaper than Starbucks coffee and I don't have to pee as often.

Wait...can I say "pee" on CR4?

Could that be why my memory's been getting bad? I seem to remember that it started since I started using cellphones.

No, wait! If I can remember that, maybe my memory's not so bad after all!...or is it? Can't remember...

There are two parameters needs to be considered: the RF frequency and RF transmitter power. Usually a heat FR/microwave works at a frequency of 2.45 GHz (a wavelength of 12.24 cm) that absorbed more efficiently by most organic materials. A normal cell phone doesn't have that frequency and neither has enough transmitter energy.

What happens even if it was really true? Dangerous!!!

* The cell phone could be a weapon to kill people.

* People's brain would dramatically change some brain cells could cook. People will lose some related action/abilities.

"People will lose some related action/abilities."

Most likely they would lose their ability to remember to pay their cell phone bill first. So that will never do.

Obviously another hoax leading to another "urban legend". Don't pay any attention to such a thing. When I first received this video (through an e-mail) I was immediately and absolutely sure that this thing is impossible to happen. The previous posts seem to agree and give some infos. We didn't need a magnetron or any other RF power source to cook pop-corn though. Just a hiden source of heat (under the table maybe) will do its job. So, don't panic.

Ah, we engineers always think of the most technically difficult way of doing things.

I read the description on how this was done by the man that made the first video. They simply dropped already popped popcorn from above, and digitally removed the kernels. If you look closely, you can see that the popped corn comes from above.

They had the guy who made the video on T V telling how he did it. He simply dropped pop corn on the table and then removed the kernels with photo shop.

It is a scam !!

Yep, cat's out of the bag (Del, where'd you go?). The popcorn only pops if it is liberally coated with snake oil - butter won't work.
