Hello Guest,

Thank you for your incisive question.

Some pipe racks are used for display purposes only.

A different type of pipe rack may also be used to prevent or minimise fire, while the pipe user is otherwise occupied.

There are various types, and I attach a couple of pictures at left, one of a seven-day pipe rack, and another showing a variety of historical pipe types, as used by Process Engineers many years ago.

Trust that assists you.

Kind Regards....

They provide support to both the supply and return pipelines. By providing adequate support, they will keep pipe flexing within acceptable limits. They also help dampen vibration from the pipes that may have an adverse effect on some delicate processes.

Good answer.

In addition they form a trunk route for services in the same way the spine does for the central nervous system in mammals.

Hello PWSlack

I am imagining pachyderms who have been inducted into the Army/Navy/Air Force, moving in an orderly stream up the M1.

Kind Regards....

It could be where they hang their pots, store their Bikes, or hang their clothes,

But sometimes they just store pipes

This sounds like a stupid academic question which someone has made out of a text book.

Sorry.....the only place you will find the correct answer, will be in your text book.

Re: Pipe Racks in Process Plants

The main "important of the pipe rack in the process plants" is that it supports pipes...it prevents pipes from falling down. Why is that important? Well, it is important because, if the pipes fall down, the process is interrupted and if the pipes are not put back up again, the process stops. In other words, if the process is important, then the process pipes must be adequately supported.

Hope that helps.
