Contact the original equipment manufacturers with the serial number of the motor. The information will be forthcoming.

PW, you are assuming that Gilbert knows and can contact the maker!

A problem which we frequently encounter in the marine environment is that we are presented with piece of equipment (with motor) that has failed and there is no data plate or any documentation to allow us to contact the makers. (or the makers have ceased trading). How then should one calculate / approximate the value of a capacitor that has blown to smithereens or corroded to a pile of alluminium dust? Sometimes we judge it by experience if the risk can be justified but this is hardly the best way to solve the problem!

The original poster gave no information as to the location or the environment in which the equipment may be found. Provocative replies can sometimes extract further information of value both to the forum and to the original poster.

PW,

The point i was trying to make is that the obvious "refer to manufacturer" advice is often an impossibility for any one of a multitude of reasons. The motor is clearly small but it may be difficult to replace due to a nonstandard fitting or similar.

within europe and the USA this advice would, in most cases, be valid but in other parts of the world things are not so cleanly cut.

regards

chas
