Large E-mails

09/01/2008 6:05 AM

How can I send large emails? From a website, one can download large files. I would like to send files in the 1gb range. Even after zipping them, they are still too large to be sent with my email. Any suggestions?

Short answer - you can't. Better to use a peer-to-peer service like sendspace, or if you have your own webpage you may be able to upload the file, then others can download from your site.

In the good old floppy days we had a program called Split, It subdivided the big (ZIP) file into smaller chunks which could then be copied onto floppies. Later they could be joined again at the destination and unzipped.

I have found the people who have hotmail e-mail addresses have restrictions placed on the size of an e-mail that people who have e-mail addresses provided by the ISP do not have.

I know that in my Outlook 2000 there is a function to "cut" large emails in small chunks. These chunks are sent one by one (+ a part that should glue those chunks back together) to the receiver. I used this function to send, but I (nor my recipients) haven't been able to "glue" the chunks back together ...

Maybe some can tell us how to put these parts back together...

P.S.
Sometimes I use this function to send a couple of hundred emails to "flood" the inbox from known Spammers ... (héhé)

You can use Power archiver and zip and split into manageable sizes. Upload to Rapidshare or any of these type sites for downloading. Having a slow connection and bad power, downloading anything over 100Meg is a problem here.

Hi,

I will also suggest you to use yousendit.com as someone suggested.

But, Remind your receiptant to download the file from that site within 15-20 days.

The reason is that the link will get expired soon. You cannot store the files as long as you need it.

you may try www.bigstring.com. Here you can register free. Upto 30 minutes video e mail is possible (may be when you pay and become member). Many other surprising features are present which you will surely like.
