UV units

09/02/2008 2:00 PM

hello all,

thanks in advance in spending time with this qsubject

i have a question a bout using the uv units as a water purification system,

i need to install it on line connect it to 2`` pipes

i wonder is that uv units might heat up the water and cause trouble?

do i need to circulate the water ?

how i can choose what unit is good for my application?

are there regulations, or guidance i have to follow (NY stat)

please tell me if any body know any thing about that or any guide lines that might help

I'm not sure you've given enough information.

But if you're going to work with such systems, PLEASE take every possible precaution not to expose your eyes or skin directly to the UV, even for a few seconds. The UV produced in these is very intense and of a wavelength(s) that is extremely dangerous. Even what you might think is a brief exposure will damage your skin or eyes badly - possibly permanently. These are absolutely positively not like "safe" tanning bed bulbs. I know people who have been nearly blinded. I myself have had a couple of very close near-misses due to carelessness but fortunately got off lucky.

That's my sermon for today. I'll be passing the donation box around later.

guest,

I made a steriler conveyoy feed COP unit for doing cheese forms.

I had used flash lamps, I do not have the data with me but the OEM of the flash lamps has an excellent web site. Very informative and the dealer are also very helpful.

If you do not hear from me in 48 hours, rattle my cage with a email

Here is the web address;

www.xenoncorp.com

The information that I recieved was from 2003, it was very informative, and the rep. was very helpful in applications.

There are quite a few pages to the brochures with empirical data that explains maintenance, applications, hazards and such.

This should help.

I'd suggest contact one of the manufacturers such as: http://www.trojanuv.ca/en/homeframe.htm

I'm sure they will give you any help you need. UV disinfection isn't a DIY job.

  1. The water will be warmed up by the lamps. Whether this causes problems or not depends on how temperature sensitive your particular application is.
  2. Normally, the water flows through the UV unit, not left to stagnate inside it. There's no real harm done if the water is stagnant though, although temperature buildup in the unit may be a problem. Many home UV units only have water flowing through them when water is used. Check with your supplier on this.
  3. For disinfection, the wavelength should be around 254nm. For TOC-destruction, it's 185nm.
  4. Check with the manufacturer for the best make and model for your purposes. Some popular brands include Aquafine, Trojan, and Wedeco.
