You may have just asked how does water work.... An inteligent answer can ONLY be given to an inteligent question.

I see that out of 65 posts, Tim has provided one good answer. This must not have been the one. Better luck next time Timmy.

FAP = VAD. Force x Area x Pressure (PSI) equals Volume x Area X Distance.

This Distance is the distance a hydraulic ram will move with a certain diameter

tube to move through , and a certain volume of hydraulic fluid (or water) at a

certain pressure.

If this is regarding fire protection for a building - you had better check on your local codes and see if any of the following standards apply:

International Building Code

International Mechanical Code

National Fire Protection Association

Or any other code/standard depending on your location

You have a professional do it. Someone who has the experience, knowledge and inclination to do it.

This is a subject that can have fatal results if left to the unknowledgeable. Even many of those who claim to be able to do it really don't know what they are doing.

From a Chem Eng for many years who is also a volunteer fire fighter with almost as many years operating fire engines.

Bill

That's very good advice. Fire protection systems are fairly complicated, and their functioning is seldom improved by unenlightened tinkering.

Trying to get by on the cheap was the root cause of the Grover Shoe Factory Explosion in 1905.

If this is for modification to an old system, or for a new system, you don't do anything. You call a state certified sprinkler designer who knows what he is doing, and why he is doing it.

A friend of mine is good, reasonable, and has many years of experience. Call Glen at 330-220-7201.

Look up the information in NFPA Chapters 13 and 14. Discuss with the authority having jurisdiction if any special conditions or occupancies apply.

If you get lost with the above information, STOP. Ask a local professional to perform the work.

Clint Eastwood, as "Dirty" Harry Callahan stated "A man needs to know his limitations." This might be one of them, and there is no shame in admitting it.
