Vortex Power Generation

09/21/2008 12:59 AM

Hi all, we are looking at alternative energy sources here in Bali for a number of applications from commercial to residential and I'm wondering if any of you have experimented with vortex power? If so, what results have you obtained, what efficiencies over hydro-electric turbines, what problems have you encountered with vortex approach? If you have any recommendations regarding the best equipment for this type of power generator I would also appreciate some info on that. Thank you.

If you have water available that can flow to a lower point you can generate some electricity with it. The amount and the method will depend on the flow and the height.

If you have some water at one level you will have to use AI (artificial inspiration) to get any work from it.

The problem is that because both (inspiration & generation) would be below 100% efficient the work in will always exceed the work out.

have a look at this www.treehugger.com/files/2007/06/gravitational_vortex_power.php

The system already exists in Indonesia as you can see on http://www.zotloeterer.com/

I saw a very neat video from austria about it. Basically you have water swirling down a pipe and your turbine is turning slowly as the water swirls into the pipe. It does not chew up fish like high speed turbines either. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=3J87lzqMEnI I really like it and the austrian accent is sweet too. You should note that the original water wheels in europe were horisontal too. Perhaps they even used similar effects hundreds of years ago. Brian
