Volume flow rate

10/19/2008 5:54 PM

Is there a way to calculate the volume flow rate of a duct from reading the flow rate and measuring the duct outlet size?

Meters per second to meters per second cubed?

Just multply the velocity by the flow area. Meters/second x square meters.

This only works for low veloicity flow (no compressibility effects)and discounts boundary layer effects. It is, however, probably good enough for flow velocities of less than 100 meters/second.

Cheers osbourne.That will do nicely!

Using calculation for checking if mechanical ventilation to boiler room is suffcient.Present aneometer only measures in m/s.

Thanks again.

Then I'd guess that you are not running choked flow in that application....

Actually, that should be meters cubed per second.

Hi

Yes there are so many way to calculate volume flow rate.

volume flow rate cubic meter per hour = velocity (speed) meter per hour multiply by Area of duct (opening) in square meter.

now a days there are so many instrument which give directly flow rate, you no need to do any calculation.

The Basics are here.

Q=AV

Q=Flow rate In m3/sec

A= cross sectional areaOf conduict in m2

V= Velocity in m/sec.
