What kind of damage are you seeing? Is the sensor physically damaged or just stops functioning?

Most times, I find that a failed sensor is due to something physical was done to it. Like an operator trying to open a valve by hitting it with a pipe and missing...oops! 'Gotta call the instrument guys!

It's also possible that your sensor's power supply is a little too high. Not enough to fry the sensor immediately but just enough to kill it in a year's time. Still on the power supply, you might also have occasional voltage spikes.

If your sensor is directly driving a relay, that might also do it in. The voltage spikes from the coil as it switches off will kill it if you don't have spike or surge suppressors (a simple diode will do).

That's about all I can think of at the moment. Let us know what you find.

regards,

Vulcan

I am not familiar with the Siemens 84.2 so I wouldn't know what sensor you've got.

Do you know what type of sensor it is? Do you have the sensor's brand and model? Can you post a picture? Any information might help me identify it

Don't wait another month to reply, please.

regards,

Vulcan

I thought I had already replied. Apparently, I didn't click on the "submit" button and closed my browser directly.

Anyway, the Braun A5S05 is a Hall-effect proximity sensor. I checked my favorite proximity sensor brands but none of them carry a comparable sensor.

I've successfully used IFM Efector and Pepperl & Fuchs speed sensors but in my case, I used their own modules as well. If you want to replace your unit, you may have to change the module as well as the sensor.

Check out the IFM or the P & F websites to look at their products. Alternatively, you can contact their representatives there in your area. The website will be able to give you their contact numbers.

Good luck.

IFM Efector and Pepperl & Fuchs speed sensors can be used. If you application in rotating m/cs like motor you put encoder it will alos give the sine wave

Kubbler , buffale , TWK gemany, sensor

Dear

Can you tell us what is your application for this sensor used. Normally these square waves have pluse how many you need , range of sensor, input volatge required. Where this feedback is going of this sensor. If in PLC you can use any sensor and can be progammed. IFM comapny must having these sensor .

Normally such sensor not failed every year.Failure can be by not proper installation, not proper position of installation, Input supply volatge vary to much, not proper grounding of the system and damage by human error
