I would recomend contacting some of the Native American tribes. Sounds like a good industry for them.

If you are only looking for personal use quantity of brushes, try a fly fishing tackle shop that sells materials for tying flies. I have bought deer and elk hair in bags.

A model air plane shop will have all sort of brass tubes in various sizes to nake the ferrules.

Handles can be either taken from other paint brushes or carved to suit your hand.

OK, just exactly why do you want to paint elk hair? Is the hair still on the elk? Is the elk still alive or is he dead?

Hi lonster

What are the properties of Elk hair brushes? Never heard of them. An Elk should have different hair types at different times of the year. You should collect some and make the brush your self. It's not to hard but takes a bit of practice. Not the collecting but the making or maybe both.

If you need some really soft brushes you could use the pubic hair from baby silk worms, unless you are planing to paint a house. Good luck!

They don't come any softer! Ky.

You could try some of the shops in Estes Park Colorado. The elk walk the streets there.

Hello lonster,

I know a Elk ranch in Northern Idaho if you wish to make your own brushes. I help cook a pig on a spit every summer there for a get together.

I make Elk Hair Paint Brushes as a hobby for one of my friends, who uses them for fine line painting on the ceramics he creates. If your interested you can contact me * and I will send you some pictures of what they look like and if they will fit your needs, or I can custom make them to fit your needs.

Sincerely Robert W. Hazen11/13/15
