Ground-Penetrating Radar Unit Needed

01/08/2009 4:14 PM

I'm working on a science center exhibit in which we're featuring the technology of ground-penetrating radar. We are trying to find a GPR unit that is broken/non-functioning that we can have to showcase how this technology is used in archaeology. Any ideas where I can get one? Thanks for your help.

Welcome aboard! It might help to know where this display is to be located. You might find one next door, but I doubt you'd want to ship one trans-oceanic.

Very good point. Our science center is in Columbus, Ohio. However, we're partnering with the science center in St. Paul, Minnesota to fabricate the exhibits, so it would actually be easier if we could get a GPR unit to MN rather than OH.

Kate, you might try contacting a few manufacturers of the equipment in question and see if they might be willing to supply a non-working engineering mock-up in the form of a donation in exchange for the prominent display of their logo and listing as a sponsor/donor to the exhibit. They get relatively cheap advertising that way.

Yeah, that was our first angle as well, but at least so far, no luck.

Kate. GPR (ahem) is nothing special, but capable handling veerrry short pulses and the hard returns from the ground, vs. doing all that in air. So, that is not visible by any visitor. Any box will do. On the other hand The data is fabulous. Some of them were shot from satellites showing ancient river runs and ancient trade routes in the arabic peninsula. Go from there.

Whoa, Trigger! I take it for a given you think leveles to be uninformed. I do not, however, accept that leveles is an idiot! Can we perhaps proceed with a modicum of civility? And would it not be more useful to provide what you think is correct, rather than merely flaming something you feel is incorrect?
