Stopping the Engine with an Immobilization Relay

01/29/2009 8:24 AM

I have an immobilisation relay that can open the circuit of a vehicle ignition line when activated during the motion of the car and afterwards, the car wont start again when the ignition is off and it was attempted to start. How do i use this immobilisation relay to stop the engine when activated when the car is in motion?which circuit control the fuel/engine that can be open so that the engine stops during motion?

It sounds very similar to the seatbelt interlock relays that were federally mandated in 1974. After too many cars were left stranded, the govt.allowed removing them. You could use your relay to interrupt the electric fuel pump circuit. If that relay were to fail, or the installation was to cause a failure, you would become liable if there were to be an accident. I would be unwilling to install a device like this.

The only reason I could think of is so the car thief that stole the OP's car could have a chance of shooting the OP as he went running up to his stalled car.

In some GM cars you can disable the fuel pump by disconnecting the oil pressure sending unit. A lot depends on the make and model.

So what happens if the car happened to be stopped/stalled while straddling a railway level crossing?
