DP Transmitter Range and Orifice Diameter

02/10/2009 11:42 AM

i have some data of process. i want to install dp transmitter.

how i find the dp range and orifice dia. any formula.

my data is :

line size : 100mm

pressure : 3 kg/cm2

flow : not perfect but appx. 60m3/hr.

want to install dp transmitter how i get dp range and orifice dia details.

thanks

Hites,

The basic equation for Orifice mass flow calculation is

q=CEY(pi/4)d²*Square root of(2groDP)

Where

unit system is imperial

Q is mass flowrate in lbm/s

C : discharge coefficient (no units)

d : plate bore diameter (feet) @ flowing temperature (T)

DP : differential pressure (lbf/in²)

E : velocity of approach factor (no units)

g : dimensional conversion constant (lbm-ft/lbf-sec²)

pi : universal constant (3.14159

ro : density of the fluid and flowing conditions (P and T) (lbm/ft3)

Y : Expansion factor (no units)

This is extracted from public documentation.

Based on this, the information you provide are not sufficient.

You need to specify : P, T, density at flowing P and T, type of fluid.

Please note orifice plate bore calculation is carried by iteration normally. In other words, you do several iterative calculations before reaching your final results.

You can access to detailed calculation method by purchasing suitable calculation softwares or the standards (ISO5167 or AGA3) which provide you with the equations.

enjoy

You need to carry the calculation.

Alternatively, the supplier of the transmitter should be in a position to carry the calculation for you.

Consider electromagnetic flowmeters instead, which can be more attractive at these line sizes.
