Pressing water tank level for PF filters is controlled by a 3" on-off buttrfly valve and the water has over 4 Bars pressure. The valve breaks often and is causing serious stoppages. which type of valve can i use?
You have several options including butterfly valves. If your current valve is breaking a couple of things are happenning that need to be investigated before jumping to another valve.
Not knowing your control schem I will assume you are using an pneumatic actuator to open and close the valve. Here a few things can be occurring to cause dammage. First the actuator maybe oversized for the valve, just because it fits on doesn't make it right. Second the air pressure to the actuator could be set too high, most applications need only 2-4 bar of air pressure not the 5-6 that many people like to use. Third the actuator stops may not be properly set (if the actuator has them).
Another thing to look at is the overall valve quality, cheap valves tend to be cheap for a reason.
Speed..... How fast does the valve need to open and close? Try installing needle valves on the inlet and exhaust ports to control the speed and to cushion the action.
If water hammer is a concern but the valve needs to open and close quickly you may want to consider using a semi-linear ball valve.
If you tell us specifics such as how the valve is actuated and supply model/manufacture information plus anything else you think is important to your system you will get better advice.
Is the valve rated for 4 bar differential pressure?
Consider ways of slowing down the valve opening and closing times.
Consider adding a smaller bypass line around the valve, and shut the larger valve first.
Consider reducing the supply pressure by some other means.
