If you are scared of forgetting something stick a bright sticker on it.

Re: My Question

If your referring to casual height or length measurement, you get someone to stand next to the item to be measured and hold a pencil (or stick) at arms length. You should be back a fair distance so the person is well within the size of the stick and you can see the entire structure from the side and straight on. May be up to 100 feet. Place the pencil point to the top of his head and put your thumb, (on the pencil) at the bottom of his feet. Since you know how tall the person is you count off how many lengths from the point to your thumb the structure is tall and multiply by his height. It's good for a quick estimate of height but not for Skyscrapers and mountains. Vanishing points don't work well for this.

Hope this is what your asking for. If not I got a million things you can do with a stick. Sharp or otherwise.

Re: Carrot footnote

The carrot I meant is of course a reward or enticement, not the same as the "carrot method" shown in the film Shoot Em Up, where carrot method has become an obscure art form as well as a nutrient, in a manner that cannot be properly termed persuasion.

One method is to shove the stick up where the sun doesn't shine.

More like a cheap and innovative, if rather uncomfortable way to treating constipation.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: ask stupid questions, get stupid answers.

I am ashamed of my fellow CR4 members.

I don't know why we can not answer even a simple question like this.

The question is very simple.

How do i use the stick method?

Guest: The answer is with a stick.

HEY! At least I tried to give him a reasonable answer. But you guys already started giving him some of my other answers! Please don't interject or I will need to use the stick on you guys.

Answer 14: Build a small fire. Can be done only once unless it's a REALLY big stick!

Re: My Question

Careful; how do you know this isn't a trick question? How sure are you that "Guest" is not actually trying to "stick" it to you? Am I the only one who finds it strange that after posting the question, our mystery guest didn't "stick" around to receive the replies? Or maybe he's just being a "stick" in the mud...... . Anyway "Guest", if you're still out there, do "stick" around a little longer so that you can help us iron out any "stick"y situations caused by us not quite knowing how to answer your questions.

If you don't know how to use the stick method, your only option is an automatic.

The standard student method to test if the pasta needed for the bolognese is properly cooked is to throw a small sample agains a vertical wall lined with ceramic tiles. If the pasta sticks, it is cooked. If it doesn't then boil it for a bit longer.

Re: My Question

You have to shake the stick first, this produces more results

Actually, it's an old dog trick for training humans; You fetch them a stick, and they throw it a short distance. After numerous repeats the throwing distance improves, but they're eventually broken and can throw it no further. This game works really good on Hampstead Heath - just get them to the exhausted stage, then run away and hide. As they shuffle around in the bushes looking for you, all sorts of funny stuff happens

The stick method works fine, as long as you're not at the short end of it.

Re: My Question

03/03/2009 2:07 AM

When I beat people with a stick, the part left in my paw is usually the shortest. It's like the complicated curiosity of breaking spaghetti ; get a piece of dried spaghetti (the kind sold in packs for you food cupboard) and grasp it at either end. When you flex it, the thing always breaks into 3 bits. More complex than meets the eye.

That last bit is stick related, and also has scientific value. Will all readers please acknowledge this by giving me a GA. It's a bit like "Buddy can you spare a dime", but more 21st century. In these lean times I need all the GA's I can get.

If you don't get on the stick, you'll get the shaft.
