speed up torrent downloading

It depends on what you want to do with it. Now days torrent sites are also used by businesses as a way of making large quantities of data easily accessing, they are also used for downloading data of a less than legal status. As I don't know which camp your question falls into I will keep it brief. They all work roughly the same (the free ones that is), its the seeder number, share ratio and connection speed (in that order) that effect the speed.

Some options to try within the preferences/options of whatever tool you are using (I recommend uTorrent):

1. Cap you upload speed to 20Kb/s or so, which will allow for higher download speeds
2. Change the port being used for connections (ISPs will limit transfer rates on common torrent ports)
3. Set you max download connections to 40-50, which increases chances of getting a fast connection
4. Choose torrents with a high number of seeds (not peers)
