So……..I fixed the computer. New mobo, two hard drives, bells and whistles. It took me two weeks and cost me more had I purchased a new one…but I needed to recover the data.
The first order was to find the online timeshare software that could diagnose a failed hard drive. Second was to find the interface that connected the non functioning hd to the diagnostic software. Thirdly was to download the found data into a new hd. Sounds simple enough doesn't it? It isn't!
Of course one had to assume that the motherboard was still functioning. Mine was not. I didn't know that. This is where the term 'back to square one' does not apply. One actually goes further back in time to a more primitive state of being.
One week into the project and shunned by one's fellow workers, wife, dog, cat, children and civilized society while reduced to Australopithecine communication skills I persevered and fixed the damn thing.
The problem is….I have no idea what I did (well, actually I do, sort of) and could never remember if I had to do it again.
My question is: I now have two hd's…..one working, the other with my data but with a corrupted os. I have moved the data into the useable hd but would like to re-format the buggered one and use it as a backup storage drive.
So………When I turn off my useable hd I cannot access the buggered one. How do I get around that or do I, in fact, need to?
