Yeah...take up playing duplicate bridge.
After a while you'll be able to remember all 13 cards held from a specific hand the day before.

Don't forget to get your sleep: all the research lately is showing sleep is needed to consolidate memory. Never feel guilty for taking a nap.

Never use marshmallow puffs as a study aid. Anything crammed on a mallowpuff high will vanish in three days time, never to be recalled again.

Re: How to increase brain power

here's one:

When you set goals for yourself, whether is in school or the workforce, it is important that you concentrate on the task at hand to obtain those objectives. For millions of people, it is not that easy.

It is difficult to obtain your objectives if you do not know what they are. It is necessary to
define what your goals are. This will assist you obtaining them. When you have clear and concise objectives, you will be able to focus and concentrate better.

When you take on too many tasks at one time, you are setting yourself up for failure. Overwhelming yourself with too many tasks will inhibit your ability to focus because you will stress about getting everything done on time. Doing one thing at a time will help you to concentrate better.

If the task that you have is a big one, breaking it down in segments will assist you in completing more competently. Focus on the segment that you are working on and not the whole project. Concentrating on the task in front of you will allow you to complete it correctly with very little stress, and more often than not, you can complete it before the deadline.

No matter who you are, expect the unexpected. There are no guarantees that you are going to have a error proof life. Obstacles always crop up and you need to be prepared to handle whatever is thrown at you in order to meet your goals. Distractions are all around us everyday, being able to shut them out and concentrate on your task will assist you in completing it quickly and efficiently.

Success and recognition is gained over time. Nothing worth having is easy. You need to be able to concentrate and do the very best that you can in everything that you do. It is important that you do not give in to stress, it will only slow you down and concentration will be difficult if not impossible. Sometimes taking a short break will help you to regain your focus and concentration. You may find that by doing this, your focus will improve.

To be a success, sacrifice is sometimes required. It is like an exchange. You will give up one thing to gain another. You just need to make sure that what you give up is worth what you are gaining. If you have a job that requires you to focus intensely on your task, you may want to remove the telephone from your desk, as each time it rings, your concentration is broken. When you remove the daily distractions you are doing something that can help you to focus on your job.

Putting things off is the number one cause of stress. When you put things off, they tend to creep up on you all at once and you find yourself with a multitude of tasks that need to be finished all at once. This not only causes stress that leads to loss of concentration, it also can cause you to become overwhelmed with work, and that can lead difficulties in focusing. When you do what you are supposed to do at the time you are supposed to do it, you will find that your concentration will be stronger.

hope this helps

I have used Focus Factor over the last 2 years. I try to take vitamins before I go to bed at night. I would take a 1/2 dose of Focus Factor at Noon. I found that I did not have any "low energy" days. I was able to cope with the daily challenges of life easier with the Focus.

Not dramatic results, but over a length of time, I felt an improvement in my mental alertness.

W. Wenger wrote an awesome book some years ago, called How To Increase Your Intelligence. a very worthwhile read if this is something that interests you. (intelligence building)

1) Vitamin E increases the production of neuronal synaptic filments (number of interconnections)

2) Masking (bag breathing to increase oxygen to the brain)

3) Stimulation (motor inputs to brain drive development)

4) Floating (dead man floats and other techniques to develop primitive layers in the brain)

and much more..

and thank you, i just discovered his website.. it looks rich.

http://www.winwenger.com/

Additionally, there were studies being done in rhythmic breathing and brain signal matching music, called Super Learning as I recall.. (Wiki)

and then.. finally, read about how Nikola Tesla developed his powers of visualization I recommend getting a copy of the book Man Out Of Time, or similar.

ROFL If you can increase intelligence by doing dead man floats and breathing into a bag, the bums on the corner will soon be taking over wall street...

shag it man, may as well try "Zen and Confucious in the Art of Swordsmanship". take the advice of the tengu (ask sb).

Geez where have you been.. they did take over wall street!! and walked away with the loot too.

I agree it sounds ridiculous.. on the surface.. but I'm telling you, you can have my copy of that book when you pry it from my cold dead fingers. Imho, this guy knows wtf he's talking about. If you were concieved and spent 9 months relaxing in a warm liquid, like me, then the dead man's float is an activity that continues the benefits of that naturally developmental environment. The book covers all the background research and data. The brain is built up in layers, and if you improve the lower/earlier developmental layers, you automatically improve the later ones. Same with all the rest of the things I mentioned. It may only be controversial in that since his book came out, the big evil has seen fit to lower the RDA of vitamin E. I'd like the smart people in the room to tell me why that is? It wasn't controversial or dangerous before his book.

gotta hand it to you.. you make the floating sound pretty good Makes me think of just lolling around in a tropical ocean somewhere.. the vacation that keeps passing me by... Somehow I never thought of the "increasing intelligence" angle there.. Call the boss... Relax is good, boss.

(then watch em bring in tanks so all the staff can do dead floats en masse at break time. ROFL. how about a new sport, synchronized dead floats. )

as for vitamin E RDA, according to news, they did big huge massive long studies and statistically they could not recommend the higher amounts.

On the plus side, vitamin D RDA has been upped significantly. I often find I get into lossy mental states when there's not enough light. Since the big D promotion, I've been taking 1000 mg whenever I lost focus on grey days: amazing bounce back. Perhaps I should think about ahem.. writing a book (some greater floater has probably got it in the works already, alas)

Thats how 'they' work.

My city just opted to renew the water fluoridation program.. 'nuff said.

This is ground breaking medical history. By this time next year, all paramedics will be training on how to throw bodies into the water. Better than the primitive methods used today like AEDs and CPR. I wonder if I can franchise the training schools?

Saying 'exercise' is like telling some people to 'meditate'. How? Multitasking the brain, or getting both halves working in tandem is the desired result. I have found Mozart works well as I try to concentrate. ZBS Media produces tapes and discs that are fun to listen to (The Fourth Tower of Inverness, Travels with Jack, etc.) and can actually create several 'Aha' moments in a half hour segment. A good stereo system or headphones are a must. Pay attention and soon your brain will be doing an Immilmann loop. Vitamine B complex, Ginko, and Ginseng help with brain chemistry. Melatonin helps with sleep.

Re: How to increase brain power

I have read that the best way to improve memory, intelligence, concentration etc. is to use your brain more in activities such as reading, learning, meditation, memorizing anything just like a muscle if you exercise it it gets stronger or vice versa. I am getting older and found I am not as sharp as I used to be. I did something about it. I am very technical in Electronics, Computers, Programming etc. so I need to be sharp in order to do these activities and I have found that those studies are right because now I read and study and design I have seen a huge improvement. Even talking to you right now on CR4 is helping me to be sharp getting in involved with fellow Engineers helps a lot. Get involved with mental activity with others it has made me much sharper and I hope it will help you.
