Irrigation Pumps

03/15/2009 6:40 AM

Hi there.. I want to clarify smth please..

We have 5 irrigation pupms with working pressure 8 bar.. and the 5 filters with working pressure 5 bar.. If we increase the pressure of the pumps to 12 bar will be a problem for the filters working on pressure of 5 bar??

Thank you!!!

Possibly, but we need more information. Is the irrigation pump drawing from a tank, pond or well, and if a well, what is its height? Do the filter housings have any maximum inside-to-atmosphere pressure rating? And do you know what the pressure is at the at the outlet of the filter with the current 8 bar setting?

Running a 5 bar filter at 8 or 12 bar might be fatal. why?

Rather check your pipe sizes and design.

Go to home.global.co.za/~fluid/index.htm and download a demo version to check your design.

Please check for the filter design. Exceeding above the design pressure will loose the performance of the filter.

Filter is a pressure vessel. Please check the design pressure to which it was designed. If you have the drg of the filter indicating shell and dish thickness, it can be checked by reverse engg

Hi Flower!

I have built many irrigation systems and have never installed a filter. Most irrigators will take debris up to (almost) half brick size!

I'm wondering if you actually ment "suction strainer" in which case, NO it doesn't matter! OR:-

Is the filter way downstream of the pump, like 3000 mts away?

If the system is, say, a centre pivot mist system then, perhaps you do need a filter. I think you would be very unlucky to burst the filter housing under a 3:1 ratio i.e. 15Bar!

Good luck with it!

Well, it depends upon whether you want the filter housings to survive the experience, Boss. For example, what happens if you put 12 bar in a bicycle tyre that is rated at 5 bar?

Definetly it is going to creat problems to filters, because filters are designed on certain difference in pressure and also velocity, if you increase the pressure from 5 bar to 12 bar almost you are increasing double so it will damage the filters.
