Wireless Hi Fi Help required....

03/21/2009 1:44 PM

I would like to transfer music from my PC to my hi fi system but because of the location I cannot run a hard wire connection. Is there such a device which would plug in to the USB on my pc and enable a wireless transfer to another device say with twin phonos to connect with my stereo?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Martin

If your stereo has a cassette deck, your best bet would be a bluetooth dongle: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tiny-USB-2-0-Bluetooth-V2-0-EDR-Dongle-Wireless-Adapter_W0QQitemZ260371550009QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item260371550009&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1761|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1308 and a bluetooth cassette: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bluetooth-Car-Audio-Microphone-Cassette-Tapes-Adapter_W0QQitemZ160318227918QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item160318227918&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177 Other ways would be to buy a wireless transmitter + receiver, which plugs into the 3.5mm jack and a 3.5mm jack with a phono converter. Otherwise if you want it cheaper, with a bit of DIY involved (credit crunch), with the bluetooth dongle, you could use in conjunction with a bluetooth headset, which you pull the speaker from, and solder on a phono plug. As long as it was paired, this option would also allow for your mobile phone to put music onto the stereo. Good luck :P

Thanks

You can also make your own FM transmitter, from scavenged parts off circuit boards from old broken appliances.http://www.cie-wc.edu/fmtransmitter.asp I am trying it as we speak.

Please look in the April 2009 Popular Mechanics, starting on page 116 is an article about routers, that will accomplish exactly what you have asked for.

Blue tooth is severely restricted on distance. Most of the units I know and have used are limited to around 10 feet WITH NO WALLS BETWEEN THEM! Less with walls. Blue tooth was not originally designed for your application.....

Two good ways:-

1) Small Stereo FM Transmitter, I get about 40 meters through walls with one I bought in the USA many years ago (before Bluetooth and WiFi!). They can be bought all over nowadays.

2) There are "Internet radios" Noxon is one, that can play streaming audio via your WiFi from either the internet or your PC, some are not stereo though, some have no speakers as you need a little stereo system to play through.....distances are as for WiFi, that is around 20 meters without repeater, but with walls......

3) Look here:-

A good quality FM transmitter is by far the best approach IMHO. Allows you to send music to any radio, and the newer ones found on ebay can achieve 100 meters (line of sight) or significantly more if you add in a decent antenna (although this may contravene some broadcasting regulations in your area).

I think I saw a product that does what you want in the Crutchfield catalog over the weekend.

Radio Shack used to sell the microwave transmitter and receivers to go from room to room. It was around $100 a few years ago. I got one then and it works good except when you run the microwave which interferes.
