Wall thickness of Pipe fittings

Pl. have a look at this…..

If a wall thickness is assigned for a pipe, then the thickness of

associated fittings is same, slightly less or slightly higher than pipe

thickness (Both theoretically and on actual basis)?

Also tell the procedure to calculate them?

It is not that simple/straight-forward; wall thicknesses are not standardized and vary from manufacturer to manufacturer as per B16.9 and fittings are usually proof tested by the manufacturer (less commonly calculations are done by manufacturer) to ensure that they meet the pressure requirements of the stated rating (STD, XS, ...........). The only real dimensions are the end to end dimensions and the weld bevels.

It should be the same on everything except a butt weld cap and these are generally twice as thick and come factory counter bored to fit the schedule. This is required because it has to take the dead head pressure of a line.

Not necessarily, from ASME B16.9:

2.2 Design of Fittings
The design of fittings shall be established by mathe-
matical analyses (e.g.,ASME B16.49 for bends) contained
in nationally recognized pressure vessel or piping codes,
or at the manufacturer's option by proof testing in accor-
dance with section 9 of this Standard. In order to meet
design or manufacturing requirements, it is expected
that some portion of formed fittings may have to be
thicker than the pipe wall with which the fitting is
intended to be used. The mathematical analyses, if used,
may take into account such thicker sections. Records of
mathematical analysis and/or successful proof test data
shall be available at the manufacturer's facility for

inspection by the purchaser.

For example standard weldend 'T's (size by size) - there needs to be reinforcing in the sidewall - this is most evident from looking at different T's from different manufactureres, some are bulbous/spherical, while others are straighter.

Also the thickness variation requirements of the intrados and extrados of elbows/bends.

Seamless elbows are often made from thicker pipe (one schedule size up) to allow for wall thinning when the fitting is made. The ends are machined on the bore to suit the pipe to which they are wleded. Tee pieces formed hydraulically are often thicker than the pipe for which they're intended and also need machining at the ends. Reducers are thicker at the small end because of the way they're made and so the small end requires machining.

Dear sir,

Wall thickness should not be less than 87.5% to the specified wall thickness.so it is +/-12.5% of specfied wall thick.
