The best people to assist are the original equipment manufacturers, who ought to have supplied a maintenance manual with the equipment.

Olympian is owned by Caterpillar. That is how they managed to pick up a small engine line easily. Call up your local Cat rep and he should be able to help you. If it has not been done in a while, you should probably have them come out and service it for you.

Hi Robert,

Yes I will. are you utilizing Barloworld for your service maintenance as they are the supplier of this in SA and Mozambique?

If yes, good luck for you as they are not reliable, I had a very bad experience on my unit. that was the reason why we buy Volvo. good luck.

I will send it now.

Kind regards

Roman

You will need more than just the nominal specifications to identify the correct documentation. Olympian, once powered by English-built Perkins, now build their units is a large number of locales, and just because the engine says "Perkins" does not mean that the components are interchangeable with other units fabricated in other factories. There also seems to be reliability issues with some Olympian gen sets from some geographic regions. Caterpillar does not provide adequate support for the Olympian line. If you are extremely lucky, you may be blessed with a local dealer that takes after-sales support seriously. This is, at any rate, the best place to start. It is unlikely that manuals for a unit built in, say, India, would be appropriate for a unit built in Brazil.

One of my clients has two Olympian generators, one quite old (more than 10 years), with several 10's of thousands of operating hours (the actual hours is no longer available, because the factory-supplied electronics package had been bypassed long ago). A newer unit, Brazilian built, lasted less than 7000 operating hours. The quality of the peripheral equipment (fuel filters, fuel pump, water pump, seal material, oil cooler, turbo, etc.) is visibly inferior to the older unit. After several rebuilds, the decision has been made to replace the engine with something more rugged. Again, the electronics failed very early in the life of the unit, and the local dealer does not have sufficient logistics support to be considered reliable. The newer unit was priced at about 50% of the cost of a Caterpillar unit of similar size- I think, in this case, this was not a good bargain. The client would have been much better off with the higher-priced Caterpillar unit.
