Russian Man Builds Incredible Wall-E Case Mod

04/21/2009 8:55 AM

I'm no engineer, but I thought this was cool.

A man in Russia built a very detailed Wall-E computer case in only 18 days! The link below shows his step-by-step process. Enjoy!

Very nice...but...
I dunno, I just don't get it....
All that machining skill, and time and effort, to build a dumb replica?
If only I had those facilities (& skills) I'd be wanting to build something original(ish) that worked (or walked).
Maybe he'll sell it for a bucket of Rubles?

Dell you just disappoint me, it is a great showcase to show his skills.

and maybe he can sell it to the Wall-E fan boys for a hefty price.

on the same note why make bows? you can buy them at the stores, what a waste of time and effort

i just looked at the whole entry seems not to be a hobby but a company that makes casemods

I am being grossly miss-represented here.
I use the word 'DUMB' in it's correct meaning not the US colloqialism.

E.G It has no intelligence built in and connot move itself.
I suggest you re-read my post.

Yeah - it's an insane piece of crap. Nicely made, but I could make something similar with sticky-back plastic and old oil cans.

This has some good ones - the piano is brilliant !

It is a case-mod it is like "pimping my ride" embellishing a car utterly useless but some people think it is beautiful.

some people just want to have a cool computer case, i think a real-doll case-mod would appeal to me

sorry if did not get you pun, but your a cat, how the hell should recognise cat-humor?

Re: Russian Man Builds Incredible Wall-E Case Mod

I agree completely.

In addition, the machining is very low quality. There are chatter marks everywhere. The notion of cutting shapes by first drilling zillions of holes is wasteful and unduly time-consuming. (A band saw with coolant zips easily and cleanly through aluminum, and would provide a better job in a fraction of the time: the dollar value of his time wasted would buy him a good saw.) The tracks are not correctly hinged to appear to be workable, nor are they good replicas of the original.

If it were precisely made, or an accurate replica, or worked in some fashion, then it might be of interest. Likewise, if it were made with nothing but a cold chisel, or carved from ice. But inappropriately and badly used tools are unimpressive to me, especially when used to poorly copy the creative work of another.

But other than than those few things, it's fine, I suppose.

Well, critics can say what they like, but this man is a genius model-maker. I doubt there were any plans or specs, so considering not only his machining capability, add to that his observations, his design ability, his artistry, and craftsmanship, this guy's amazing.

Most design houses would love to have someone like this in their resource pile ... maybe the filmmakers should use him.

I like it

Nice post ...

Its a grand conspiracy theory... remember everything you think you know is wrong!

Wall-E is real... and is a secret war robot being built by the russians to end the colder war.

and only cost 2 billion rubles... hah!

I aplaud his machining skills. I would like to know more about machine tools used in Russia. Most machining jobs here are now done on CNC machines. The number of skilled machinists is dwindling.

In agreement with 6, 12 and 16 ... the guy did not ASK to be posted-on, and subjected to ridicule by, CR4 members. He simply got bit by a bug (watching the toon), and went with his emotions ... and documented his steps quite nicely and posted them for any-and-all to peruse and enjoy [or not].

Such efforts and endeavors deserve the nod from each and every one of us who have either tried and failed, or, not tried at all!

Blimey, Del, I think they took your post a bit too serious. Maybe they should have checked the many posts where you've shown knowledge and appreciation of cratfsmanship. Nothing you said goes anywhere near slagging off the creator of the thing. Jeez, it's amazing how over-serious some folk can get.

I'm only replying 'cos it's you my furry fiend friend.

Yeah, the first two words of my post 'Very nice', that's not 'nice' or 'ok' but 'very nice' which I'd have though would keep the wolves from the door.
Maybe I need to jump up and down clapping my hands and shrieking wildly like on those game shows.
Some people just don't Britsh understatement do they?
It's been rather pleasant chatting old chap, must be getting on though as the house appears to be slightly on fire...

Yeah , it's a bit sus. Many years ago, I heard a funny story* about a boy and a dyke, loooooong before pc-lingo was around. It was nicely told, alongside Pinocchio and similar. My eye's are rolling all over again - please, please, somebody tell me this quote isn't true ; "What most Americans don't know is that the story is almost certainly a work of complete fiction"

I hear General Motors is interested in it. They like to buy it and relabel it as thier new "B" compact car. "B" as in bailout.

Seems they can get it manufactured quite easy and the quality currently matches and surpasses all domestic union made vehicles.

Huh....who's that breaking in at my front door?....
