pH Controller

04/29/2009 4:04 AM

I'm planning to set-up an automated water acidification system. The desired pH range is 5 -6. The raw water pH is 7.8. Is it possible to automate the in-line acid feeding to adjust the pH? I will be using GF signet pH controller w/ sensor after the static mixer with injection quill where sufuric acid will be injected and mixed w/ the stream. I would like to control the acid feeding within the specified range.

Some means of modulating either the acidity of the injectant or its flowrate will be needed. The modulation signal is an output from 3-term PID control - does the GF Signet unit have this functionality? If not then a separate 3-term controller will be needed.

Why does the pH need to be adjusted to 5-6?

I would like to convert the alkalinity to carbon dioxide and remove it by degassification. pH lower than 5 would mean insufficient alkalinity conversion while pH higher than six would cause high sulfates concentration in the product water which is undesirable. the gf signet pH controller only has 4-20 mA output and my metering pump has 4-20mA input.

OK, then a 3-term controller would be needed in addition to the kit described. How about Eurotherm <usual disclaimer>?

hi joozmax6 you require a PID controller you can select SIPART DR controller as per your requirement , http://pia.khe.siemens.com/index-process_instrumentation-process_controllers-2140.htm
