AC Motors - Changing 415V/50Hz to 400V/60Hz

I have been asked to install a cnc machine in Saudi 400v 60 hz which came from the uk 415v 50hz

Am I right in thinking that this would only cause the ac motors to run slower?

I know the cnc and the servo motors and drives are dual rated

The motors would run faster by 60Hz/50Hz. There may be a drop in performance as a direct consequence of the higher speed. If the driven load characteristics cause an increase in required torque with speed, then the motors and their control equipment may need changing to accomodate.

The best plan is to contact the machine suppliers directly and get them to recommend any changes that the machine will need to accomodate.

The ac motors are drilling motors and all I would do is alter the feed to suit slower/faster revolutions so I think I would not have any problems. Comments?

The machine manufacturer thinks that I (a humble one man band) am direct competition ha. so he says replace all electrical cabinet and motors. Cheers Dave

Dave,

If your 3 phase motors are dual rated you are fine. They will run at the higher speed and use different motor name plate information. The servos have a drive in front of them that should be configurable, in the parameters, to accept either cycle.

You do have to watch some servo drive systems though. Some of the smaller ones do not have a parameter that allows the switch.

The speed of CNC machines is via feedback, which may be specified on the input screen, so the frequency of the line voltage doesn't come into play.

Bill; good answer, coolant would run faster, hydraulic pump maybe, the AC is changed to DC which is changed back AC/variable frequency/voltage, with feedback. perry

n = 120f/p

f= frequency ex: 60 Hz, 50 Hz,....

p = poles of motor

Motor HP = Torque X RPM.

so if n or RPM decrease then your torque is will be increase.
