Emergency Lighting Design Requirements

Dear all

Would you please tell me about Emergency Lighting -during power failure -can i take it from Generator or Battery systems.

I am bit confused to select backup source , please help me in this regard.

Most luminaires designed for the job, such as in fire escape door signs for example, have an on-board battery pack and charger built-in.

In considering other options, consider the risk of the batteries being flat, and consider the risk of the generator not starting for a host of reasons. Choose the lesser-risk route.

Now a days FTLs are avilable with Emergency Power Pack.

You can use these luminaires for Emergency Lighting purpose during power failure.

All reputed luminaire manufactures are manufacturing these luminaires

You can get an "emergency source of power" from both generators and batteries. The real question is which should you use and why should you select one type over the other.

Many times, the answer to such questions can be found in the codes and standards in effect in your particular jurisdiction. For the proper answer to this and similar questions, you will need to consult the building and or the electrical codes where you intend on installing these systems. There is no patent answer to this question as the requirements are varied from one jurisdiction to another.

you should take power from normal supply because if u take from Genset.

the E.Light will turn off when the genset kicks in. Unless the other lights

withing the same room are powered by this genset otherwise there is no light at all

in the room..

Always bare in mind E light only on when the 1st source is down...where other lights not E will on only the 1st source is up. If you power the E Light with 3rd source (Genset) then there will a confusion...lol
