If I say "left hand material" and "gradient optics" do I ring a bell?

06/02/2009 11:48 AM

I have a friend who makes puppet shows for kids.If it was something for sick or dying people I wouldn't bother but as it is for kids I decided to get involved.

He dresses all in black clothes so he remains least seen when operating the puppets.

I know the predator skin from the Schwarzenegger movie is somewhat hard to do at the moment but what I ask for is on a whole scale less - the predator disguise has to represent all that is behind you in order to allow them to see through you. What I ask for is pure black, all absorbing pure black.Basically all he does is dress in black, shouldn't there be something else?

I expect the solution to come from MEMS/NEMS

He could mount a lot of cell phones on his front side and have the camera stitched onto his back.

That should work well if Mr parallax is not in the audience.

Dark grey wool camo works better than black. Buffalo fur is the least reflective of all. It seems to suck the light right out of the air. Have him get in touch with a custom weaver/knitter who uses a variety of wools for the best effect.

Buffalo?

Really?

I am continually delighted with my fellow members amazing knowledge - but I gotta ask...why do you know this?

Yeah really Ed! It was in some article I read as a teenager, about hunting practices of the Plains Indians. They attributed magical powers to the Buffalo, not only for its great 'Power' and 'Beauty', but its ability to disappear. If they could not find the herd before sunset, there was no way to see them until full light in the AM.

It is a quirk of my nature to remember such things, forgetting equations, appointments, or what I had for dinner last night.

My wife's term for this is "WHY, Why is this taking up space in my brain?!"

Hmmmm. Maybe the Buffalo didn't go nearly extinct then. Maybe they adapted. Could it be there are still millions of them freely roaming the plains - just all "cloaked" and invisible?

Bison herds are being replenished, even on a small scale here in the northeast USA. The article I read is remembered as coming from Scientific American or some other noteworthy publication. May have been The Conservationist, but typical of the publications available to me at the time 45 years ago. I knew a custom weaver that would use a currying brush on a variety of animals for her fiber collection. Petting zoos might be a good source. Camo is short for camouflage.

What makes, "sick or dying people", as a class, not worthy of your effort?
