Athlete's Foot Pandemic

06/12/2009 3:55 AM

Swine Flu has just been clased as a pandemic.
Doesn't it seem odd to worry about Swine Flu which is less lethal than the usual seasonal flu?
Also very odd that it seems to effect the 30-55 ish age group worst. Dunno how that works, but I guess that make most of us safe

It is a bit odd (if not strange) that even though less than 100, 000 reported cases of "Swine Flu" have been noted, the same has been proclaimed as pandemic! Between 500, 000 to 1, 000, 000 die in India due to various viral attacks, the causes of which is NOT Known to any Multi-national big-wigs in the Pharmaceutical sectors. Added to this is the catastrophic deaths of the same numbers of children, women, and the aged ... all of whom die of malnutrition. Yet the world DOES NOT KNOW about these calamities... many African nations too have these problems ... but in lesser number volumes!

The WHO's use of the word "pandemic" only means that they now recognize that the virus has spread beyond the point at which it could be contained to one geographic area of the Earth. It is not intended to reflect how dangerous to life the virus is.

That may be the WHOs definition, but as is typical, the media has hyped this thing all out of proportion and since the media also hyped it as being uber-dangerous the attachment of the word "pandemic" is used as a scare tactic by virtually every health department (including our own CDC) to terrorize the population and get the government to fund production of swine flu vaccine and stockpile it. Makes me wonder who is getting paid off by the drug companies targeted to produce the vaccine. A very good friend of mine died from a swine flu vaccine back during the 1970s-80s swine flu scare, so I am super skeptical "thank you" about what these fear-mongers do in the name of science.

Why is it that the WHO does not declare a pandemic every year with seasonal flu? It is no less contained than "swine" flu and causes more deaths.

Think the age distribution is slewed more to the younger end than that - this:

"The largest proportion of patients (60%) infected with the virus were 18 years of age or younger, and only 5% were over 50 years old."

... is from an early analysis of the outbreak in the US described in BioEd Online.

Some bloke on the beeb (R4) yesterday was suggesting that maybe those over 40 had some kind of residual immunity left over from the last pandemic - but it's a bit of a shot in the dark.

The only immunity I remember (where i have a definite edge over the children) is there was no mineral/bottled water/RO or Non RO filters in my childhood.

But then these kids are to be more resistant to viruses - they are exposed to so many new types - computer virus, TV (itself one)....

We had only one in our days, that used to take about 5 minutes for a green bulb to glow and then two of the the parts of it to center in the middle. And not to forget there was a net on the top which was stretched from one corner of the room to other.

And to end it, I now wonder whether the Ex president of USA was named after it or it was named after any of his ancestors

I've always made a point of ensuring my offspring have had plenty of mud in their diet - and have had very little contact with antibacterials/disinfectants etc. When old enough1, they're allowed doses of nice, healthy alcohol to keep the worst of the germs at bay.

1 My oldest is 25, and regularly flushes her innards with cider & blackcurrant (she was a student 'til a couple of years ago, so I guess she's still learning).

Yeah, that might be a shot in dark....but it may also be due to their immunity from several other diseases that could help fight off this one.

Old age is a bigger pandemic, though not as newsworthy.

The worry was of how virulent this new virus would be. As of now this new virus has been less lethal. As it mutates in its travels thru the worlds populous it could become more deadlier then the other virus we call the season flu. The time worry is over time to prepare is now. As of yet it has not hit any of the world population during the peak of the flu season.

"GENEVA, SWITZERLAND—World Health Organization officials expressed disappointment Monday at the group's finding that, despite the enormous efforts of doctors, rescue workers and other medical professionals worldwide, the global death rate remains constant at 100 percent."

Re: Athlete's Foot Pandemic

I saw the original process "live". I was in Mexico from March, 30th till May, 8th.

I lived in Veracruz, where some said was the origin of this flu epidemic. I had enough information but the main issue was the alarm created abroad. I received many anxious phone calls from Spain but I didn't talk with anybody who direct or indirectly knew of some affected people!

In current "economical weak" situation any opportunity to make money is believable, but what about our politicians? If people is aware of some "pandemic" they won't take care of their un-ability to solve the crisis.

Kind regards
