Yes, you can, where the anchor box can be compensated by the hollow pocket.

bolts embedded in concrete can corrode. The corrosion products occupy a larger volume than the steel and cement and they exert an irresistable pressure on the concrete that leads to spalling and in time to failure of a stressed bolt.

The embedded box is usually galvanized and also spreads the load, so in theory there is no corrosion. Special epoxy end seals are also used.

Some hints can be found by drilling down into this search

Also, by using the hollow pocket and epoxy, you can attain the same advantages as provided by anchor box when you apply the same type of epoxy.

What exactly do you mean by Anchor Box?

What is the savings or improvement of making hollow pockets in the foundation?

I can't really answer your question, since I partly don't understand what you mean by Anchor Box.

I have put many an anchor bolt into a foundation so as to later attach sill plates so the building doesn't blow or float off its foundation.

Normally the anchor bolts are used to prevent shifting and not uplift. For uplift a longer J bolt is set in a wet concrete pour and is attached to the treated lumber prior to the floor being set down or the bottom plate of a wall as it is set in place (as in a garage wall).

A box is often used for corrosion prevention in areas where the ancors are constantly exposed to water or other liquid seapage and such.. Or just for the heck of it.

How to provide both anchoring and adjustment without the simple utility of the anchor box?
