CR4 Errors with Google Chrome

06/26/2009 12:16 PM

Hi,

Recently I have been getting lots of errors with CR4 and Google Chrome 2.

The error is: Problem! You are attempting to access an item that is not valid or was removed. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Please continue from our home page.

Is there any way to rectify this? If I use IE, it works fine, but I hate IE.

Is it the same links every time or does it happen randomly?

Do you have an example of a page that has one of the links?

I am using Chrome and haven't had that issue.

It happens randomly when trying to submit a comment. It comes up instead of the review comment screen, saying invalid parameter.

On my other pc, I used firefox as my main browser, but then I had to get a really slow one which chrome worked better with - firefox took an age to start.

That is what I did - I found Chrome was a problem. Only thing is that it messed up my internet connection and I have to make several attempts to get Outlook to latch on.

I don't like IE, the interface is too square and too cluttered

Don't know if there's anything to help in all of that. I've so far resisted Chrome because of talk about various problems with it. Let us know if you find a solution, I haven't read all those links yet ().

Or install IE 7... Sorry, but Microsoft kind of owns the Internet. Almost all sites build to it as the standard, then catch up with the rest as best they can... You may not like Microsoft, but you'll be able to get to just about any web site.

I used IE7 up until recently, parallel to FireFox. Now its IE8, but FireFox still has it for me. Having both allows comparison easily......and I have never found a safe way of getting rid of IE completely anyway.....

IE works best for MS Software downloads.

There really is no way to get completely rid of IE. In that respect, it's pretty much a virus!

I hate IE so much, that I haven't even bothered updating it, since I installed XP pro SP1, and went through windows update, I am still running IE6.

Try enigma. It's IE on a diet and training for speed.

I get occasional error messages when the GlobalSpec server is slow to respond, but, you just have to try again.

PWSlack used it in this thread, and I just couldn't resist. I've got no idea if it's "real". When I'm a millionaire I'll get some made for my mansion.

Could be, but a bit too well defined for original. Maybe somebody makes moulds for them, a bit like the famous Lewis chess set.

.....Yep - success !! £10 and your house can really stand out !

Now: if it was up to me there would be one next to my front door in no time, but, I'm not convinced my wife will see the benefits.

Yep, I think Mrs K would take some persuading as well ! It would look a bit incongruous on our house, and I reckon the water board would have something to say If I spouted off too much water from the roof ! It might be fun to hook one up to a pipe and a doorbell, just for cold-call salesmen.

and a lot of government websites that allow e-transactions, if I may add.

Practically everything is designed with IE in mind. I think we need change. Windows 7 has the option of installing firefox or IE.

Re: CR4 Errors with Google Chrome

06/27/2009 11:21 AM

Wow, I'm surprised at all the answers that say, "Try IE".

I personally despise the browser and only use it as a last resort.

I used to be the biggest Firefox fanboy around but the past 3-4 months it seems to crash more than ever and sometimes it freezes for a minute or two and "greys itself out".

For these reasons I have started using Chrome about 70% of the time. The only thing I miss from it is the full google toolbar (go figure)

It defeinately runs faster than IE or Firefox and being able to close one frozen tab without crashing all your other windows is a great feature.

I have been trying Firefox 3.5RC2 on my work PC and it doesn't seem to crash as much as 3.0 but I haven't been using it too long yet.

IDK what to tell you about your errors on CR4 though :(

One thing I did just notice about Chrome is that it takes away my line breaks in my CR4 posts. Also the HTML editor on ebay didn't work so good.... still I have faith in google that another update or two and they will have fixed their few weaknesses.

Yes, the line breaks do get removed, as you can probably see from most my other posts

"the past 3-4 months it seems to crash more than ever and sometimes it freezes for a minute or two and "greys itself out"

was it during this time that you used VISTA? just curious.

months ago, I asked for help in this form because my Firefox just suddenly stopped working. (I have Vista Home Premium in my personal laptop.) and only IE could access the Internet. Not Google Chrome, not Safari, Opera, etc., or going back to an early restore point , uninstalling updates, all those didn't work. I actually had to re-install Windows with the recovery disk before I could make Firefox work again.

is there something sinister about Vista?

There is a lot about Vista that simply does not work, even MS knows that and is very busy in the back ground bringing Win7 to market at least a year (some say more) in advance of its planned debut.....

I can only say (using the evidence of many friends and colleagues with Vista) its crap, leave it well alone.....

I can personally recommend WinXP Pro as being stable and reliable, at least until Win7 has proved itself, my personal take on that is at least 24 months from general release.

XP is easily bought still via ebay for example.....

Although I have only very limited experience with it, Linux seems to be a reasonable alternative for many people.....(Ubuntu for example, but there are many other Linux options....)

Linux has the advantage that it runs very fast on hardware that is not modern/fast enough for Vista/XP for example, though I must admit to not being a Linux expert in any way shape or form, sorry.

I'm with you on XP pro, it is just so more stable than vista. In the UK, windows 7 should be out at the end of october.

My guess is you'll pretty much always have little, nagging problems... From what I understand, Sun (another big company) upgrades Java at a rapid pace. They always make it available to Microsoft first because they have the lion's share of the browser market. And web sites like to use the latest version of Java.

As a result, other browsers run into stuff they don't understand and gack! Eventually, Sun gets around to getting everyone the latest version of Java, but it takes awhile.

I liked the way it gave an instant spell check on CR4 - otherwise it was a disaster and I am just recovering but still get delays in latching on to the web. Any way I can change the order of loading - my machine seems to want to load IE4 & Express before windows wants to. Might have summit to do with Antivirus security from MS Windows.
