What is the ambient temperature?

With what is the bearing lubricated?

Are the bearings new or old? Recently once we replaced a bearing in a high speed machine and in that we had a problem. Investigation has pinpointed to the improper lobes machining.

Check for lubricant contamination.

Are they hydrodynamic bearings or hydrostatic support is given? (The ball mills we make, of course larger ones) are hydrostatically supported with the soft metal only for the back-up for lube failure.

What is counter shaft? (our counter shafts are small one and then roller bearing supported) the 180 deg ones are what we call the main support bearings, for us it is 120 deg not 180 deg.

We used to use white metal fpor our mill bearings (untill 1996,not now). In addition to oil lubrication, we used to give water jacket around the bearing which will take away excess heat. White metal wears rapidly at higher tempetratures.

White metal being softer, any contaminant in the lube oil will get embeded in the white metal thus rubbing itself witht he metal part causing temperature rise.
