Relays vs. Alarms

07/10/2009 2:42 AM

Hi, I have a doubt to be clarified on: Relay Alarm SSR Relay How these three are differing with each other in terms of technical o/p signal and where to use relay with & without SSR. Then when can one use an alarm. We find may controllers with these signal o/p and a answer can help us in providing proper selection of output.

An alarm is a concept. It is a need to alert the operatives to the detection of an abnormal occurrence that warrants their attention, and it is a Process Engineering consideration.

How to achieve it using what equipment is a secondary consideration to the above, and lies in the domain of the Instrumentation Engineer.

So the first step is to evaluate the need for the alarms, and the individual actions expected in response to them. Without this step, equipment considerations are abstruse. And in many cases, "how" is not so important.
